SERENE, TIMELESS ATMOSPHERE: A THOUGHTFUL UPGRADE
This interior remodel transformed a standard new-build residential townhouse, initially finished with typical construction-grade materials, into a light, airy, and minimal space that aligns with the client's vision. The design draws inspiration from contemporary natural elements, incorporating materials such as wood and stone to create a serene and timeless atmosphere.

To achieve the desired aesthetic, we removed all crown molding and trim around openings and windows, streamlining the architecture to eliminate unnecessary visual noise. This minimalist approach enhances the clean lines of the space, allowing the design to breathe. The dark laminate floors were replaced with light oak engineered wood, a central material theme that extends into the slab finish base cabinets in the remodeled kitchen. Subtle accents, like recessed shelving in the dining room wall and selectively placed wood paneling, highlight the theme while adding warmth and texture.
A key feature of the remodel is the reimagined fireplace wall. The bottom third of the wall houses a recessed fireplace insert, and is clad in ribbed fluted panels which continue all the way to the top of the feature wall. This design not only emphasizes the fireplace as a focal point but also adds depth and visual interest. The upper section of the wall provides a recessed space for a TV, balancing functionality with clean aesthetics. Uniquely, the feature wall doesn’t extend to the ceiling, stopping short of it to enhance its focus.
The cabinetry design balances light and dark tones, with off-white slab finish cabinets complementing the wood accents, creating a harmonious blend of warmth and elegance. The stone countertops add subtle texture and movement, enhancing the kitchen’s calm and minimalist feel. The range hood with its ribbed texture and curved corners further adds a clean movement that extends to the ceiling, contrasting with the cabinets and fireplace that stop short of the ceiling.
Additional standout elements include the thoughtful lighting choices. Recessed trimless step lights illuminate the staircase, adding visual intrigue and guiding the flow through the home. Strip lighting under base cabinets and upper cabinets in the kitchen provide both practical and aesthetic value, highlighting the clean lines of the cabinetry. Light fixtures made from diverse materials like felt and iron were chosen to introduce texture and personality into the space, enhancing its character while maintaining a cohesive design language.
The result is a home that feels both timeless and contemporary, with a palette grounded in soft neutrals and natural materials, offering a clean, calming backdrop for modern living.
